About NAMI Racine County Volunteers
Our dedicated volunteers are the heart of NAMI Racine County. Volunteers help to improve the lives of people affected by mental illness by sharing their personal experiences, talents, and skills. Whether you are giving your time because our programs have helped you or a loved one or you are passionate about mental health, you can make a difference.
Become a trained peer-leader to facilitate a support group or teach a class:
|
Be a leader: Family and recovery focused support groups utilize collective lived experiences and learned wisdom. We encourage those who live with a mental illness, or those who have a family member who live with a mental illness, to become a trained leader. Those interested in potentially becoming a leader of a group should first attend the group regularly. Additional training will be provided.

Share your story to help others understand mental illness:
|
High Schools: Get trained to be a part of our Ending the Silence (ETS) presentation, which is 50-minute prevention and early intervention program that engages high school students in a discussion about mental health. This presentation is structured to be delivered by a two-person team, one of whom is a young adult living in mental health recovery (18-30 yrs. old). The lead presenter is an adult who identifies as a family member of a person living in mental health recovery.

Advocate for quality mental health care services
|
Be an advocate: An important part of our work at NAMI Racine County is the role we play as advocates for better quality mental health services, and the support services needed to live in recovery. You can get involved by connecting with your legislators and advocating for two national NAMI legislative priorities: reducing mental illness related incarcerations and focusing on youth mental health initiatives.
